Royal Northern Spring Show - Thainstone

(February 24, 2009)
It was a worthwhile trip to Aberdeen,  with 5 calves selling to a top of £1500.  This was for a Limousin x steer bred by Dougie MacBeath, out of a Limousin Cross Cow bred by us at the Newton.  He was sold to A Laird, Orkney.  Second top was a Limousin cross steer by Waindale UFO who sold for £1350 to Harry Brown, Auchmaliddie.  We also sold a Charolais x heifer for £900 to Blair Duffton, Huntly.
Two of the five calves taken to Thainstone belonged to Craig one of which won the Charolais championship.  She was a 430kg Charolais x heifer who was originally bought in October for £680 and sold at the Spring Show for £1300 to Gordon Simpson, Huntly.  Since then she has gone on to win overall Commercial champion at New Deer Show and has since returned to the Newton for breeding.  Craigs other calf was a 300kg Limousin x heifer who sold for £1100 to Innes Farms.
It was a successful day all round with one of our homebred calves standing Reserve overall.  Shown by Donald Morrison, Kinlochbervie, Obama was sold to him at the Caledonian Marts sale in Stirling, Sept 2008.
