About Us

Newton of Logierait is home to the Robertson family. John, his sister Margaret, and John's son, Craig, work on the farm and also rent Balnamuir and Milton of Kincraigie, both of which are situated on Kinnaird Estate. In total their ground covers over 1100 acres and is split between low lying and hill ground.

The three farms are home to 160 cows which are mainly 3/4 Limousin x British Blues. A small herd of pedigree Limousins run alongside the Commercial herd. However, the main focus is to breed top quality commercial show calves and the Limousin herd may be built on in the future. Show calves are usually sold at both the Royal Northern Spring Show and the Caledonian Marts Premier Show and Sale in September. Many of these calves are shown at both Summer and Christmas Shows with their new owners. The remainder of the Logierait calves are sold at 12 months old through the store ring at United Auctions, Stirling. A few homebred bulls are sold privately - see the for sale page for further information.

Over the years the Robertsons have bred many calves which have been very successful in the show ring, highlights include:

  • Jack Flash: Scottish National Winter Fair Steer Champion 2012
  • Eliza Doolittle: Scottish National Winter Fair Reserve Suckled Calf Champion 2011
  • Mickey Finn: Scottish National Winter Fair Reserve Champion Steer 2011
  • Dai: Scottish National Winter Fair Suckled Calf Champion 2006
  • Lip Gloss: Royal Smithfield Champion 2002
  • Black Magic: Scottish Winter Fair Champion 1998
  • Unique: Scottish Winter Fair Reserve Champion 1997, Royal Highland Show Champion 1998
  • John's Boy: Scottish National Winter Fair Champion 1994
  • Va Va Voom: top priced homebred calf to date - £4,800 at 12 months old

Sheep are also kept on the farm with ewe numbers currently sitting at 700. This compromises of 200 Blackies, 200 Mules and 300 Texels. The resulting lambs are sold fat through Highland Glen, with 150 ewe lambs kept as replacements.

Newton of Logierait is home to Logierait Highland Pony Stud, where the emphasis is placed on breeding hardy, true to type ponies which can be successfully shown both in hand and ridden. Unfortunately, due to a lack of time, the majority of the Highlands have not been shown before being sold to various different homes across the UK. A selection of the Logierait Highland Ponies are often for sale.

Visitors are welcome, however please contact us beforehand.
